I was just like you.
I first arrived in Hollywood, a wide-eyed 18-year-old in 1978, with dreams in my eyes, two suitcases, one filled with acting books and the other with my clothes, but no roadmap in hand. Despite working in the record business and working alongside famous artists, I quickly realized that thriving in Hollywood demanded more than talent; it required an insider's understanding and a strategic approach.
Through many classes, workshops, Q&As and events, I committed to having the career I dreamed of and diligently worked on my craft, networked with savvy actors, continued gleaning from every interaction, and turned every setback into a stepping stone. I never waited for the phone to ring or to “be discovered” - instead, I started strategizing my future through goal setting and action steps.
This journey has led me to remarkable opportunities, including early roles in "The Jeffersons," "Stand & Deliver," and "Hollywood Shuffle." I was also able to produce my projects, as well as collaborate with others on project ideas.
What I Learned Along the Way:
To succeed in Hollywood, you have to understand both the craft and the business of acting are crucial.
Life-changing advice from my godmother: Have your feelings, but don’t let your feelings have you. Keep your pity parties at a 5 minute minimum.
